The Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, and his delegation were turned away from the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi by the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II, during a visit to the Northern Region.
The Minister, who was in the region to address growing public frustration over prolonged power outages following the suspension of operations by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), was reportedly denied an audience by the traditional ruler.
Neither the Energy Ministry nor the Gbewaa Palace has released an official statement on the incident, but videos capturing the moment have since gone viral on social media.
Palace sources indicate that the Ya Naa is deeply displeased with the persistent electricity instability affecting Tamale and surrounding communities. The Overlord is said to have sent a strong message by refusing to engage with the Minister, insisting that no discussions or formalities would take place until full power is restored to the affected areas.
The incident is being interpreted as a powerful statement from the Dagbon traditional authority amid rising public discontent over the region’s energy crisis.
