A suspected motorbike thief has died after being brutally assaulted by an angry mob at Awutu Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
According to a report gathered by Oyerepa News Reporter, Nana Ansah, the deceased, together with an accomplice, hired a commercial motorbike rider (Okada) from Esikaso in the Eastern Region to Bawjiase. Upon reaching a bushy section of the road, the suspects allegedly struck the Okada rider with a stick and attempted to escape with his motorbike.
However, the injured rider managed to alert his colleagues, who quickly mobilised and gave chase.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects reportedly jumped off the moving motorbike and escaped. The other suspect, now deceased, was caught by the angry Okada riders in the middle of the road.
The mob severely beat him and, in the process, cut off his testicles.
Police officers from Awutu Bawjiase later arrived at the scene and rescued the suspect, rushing him to the Bawjiase Polyclinic. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Awutu Bawjiase District Police have since launched an investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the police morgue for autopsy and further investigation.
