Residents of Kokoteasua in the Obuasi Municipality have expressed their joy and optimism following the installation of a new chief, Nana Appiah Darkwa II, also known as Energy 1, after years of chieftaincy vacancy since the passing of their first Odikro.
At a durbar held to thank the people for their support, the newly enstooled chief outlined a strong developmental agenda aimed at improving the living standards of his people.
In his address, Nana Appiah Darkwa II appealed to the management of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine to prioritise the employment of youth from the Kokoteasua community.
He noted that youth unemployment remains a pressing issue and called on the mining giant to fulfil its corporate social responsibility by creating job opportunities for residents.
He further called on the government and other stakeholders to extend critical social amenities to the community. These include school infrastructure, accessible roads, public toilets, potable water, and healthcare facilities. According to Nana, the absence of these necessities is hindering progress and affecting the quality of life in the area.
Nana Appiah Darkwa II also urged the youth to remain law-abiding and to refrain from engaging in violence or social vices.
He emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving lasting development in Kokoteasua.
Present at the ceremony was Nana Agyei Kyere II, Asante Bekwai Apagyahene, from Krofoum Besiesi, who also delivered a strong message to residents.
He cautioned against the practice of invoking curses (duabo), stressing that His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has banned such acts within the Asanteman. Nana Agyei Kyere II warned that any individual who flouts this directive will face the full consequences of traditional law.
The occasion brought together elders, youth leaders, and community members, all united in their desire to see Kokoteasua transformed through development, peace, and effective leadership.
