Mugabe Saifu Maase appointed to Board of Tema Oil Refinery

Broadcast journalist and General Manager of Power FM, Mugabe Saifu Maase, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Ghana’s foremost oil processing facility.

The appointment was officially announced during the inauguration of a new TOR board by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, acting on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama.

Maase, a well-known pro-NDC broadcaster, has built a public profile as both a media personality and a vocal political commentator. As General Manager of Power FM, he has been a prominent supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), using his platform to advocate for the party’s policies and critique opposing views.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Jinapor underscored the strategic national importance of TOR and urged the newly constituted board to prioritize restoring the refinery to full operational capacity.

“Your foremost duty is to get TOR back on stream,” the Minister charged. “TOR is not just another company; it is a vital national asset critical to Ghana’s energy security.”

Osabarima Kyei Osafo Kantanka – Member

Board Chairperson Hon. Nayon Bilijo, speaking on behalf of the team, affirmed their commitment to reviving the once-vibrant state-owned refinery.

“We are honoured by this appointment,” he said. “We will work with urgency and dedication to revive TOR and make it a viable and efficient institution once more.”

The appointment of Maase signals a blend of media expertise and political savvy on the new board, as the government seeks to reposition TOR as a cornerstone of Ghana’s energy infrastructure.
