A 23-year-old woman, Akua Afriyie, is in police custody for allegedly causing the death of her four-year-old son by throwing him into a well at Karlo, a community in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
The incident, which has shocked the local community, was confirmed by the Assembly Member for the Karlo Electoral Area, Eric Armah. He said he received an urgent call on the matter and quickly proceeded to the scene with other residents, only to find the lifeless body of the child floating in the well.
The tragedy was promptly reported to the police in Dadieso. While officers were gathering details, a young woman approached the station, claiming that her child had accidentally fallen into a well.
However, police investigations quickly uncovered inconsistencies in her account. Further inquiries and eyewitness statements identified her as the child’s mother and suggested that the act may have been intentional. She was immediately arrested and is currently being held at the Dadieso Police Station as investigations continue.
The boy’s body has been retrieved and sent to the Enchi Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police have yet to release an official motive, but the case is being treated as a suspected homicide. Authorities say they will provide more updates as the investigation unfolds.
