Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of betraying its promises and worsening the living conditions of ordinary Ghanaians.
Addressing delegates at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference in Accra on Saturday, July 19, Afenyo-Markin cited rising fuel prices and unfulfilled campaign pledges as evidence of what he described as “glaring betrayal.”
“Their pledge to end galamsey has crashed into chaos. The president calls it a national emergency, yet refuses to declare a state of emergency,” he said.
He criticised the government’s approach to illegal mining, accusing it of paying lip service to a crisis it once claimed was a national emergency.
He also condemned what he described as coordinated attacks on Ghana’s judiciary.
“They have vowed to reset our nation, but it has become a brazen assault on our judiciary, starting with the shameful vilification of our Chief Justice.”
Afenyo-Markin further alleged that the ruling party is plotting to divert the country’s mineral resources to the benefit of party cronies.
“Their promise of change is a sham, with schemes afoot to funnel our mineral wealth to their friends,” he charged.
Commenting on the recent Ablekuma North by-election rerun, he accused NDC-linked individuals of perpetrating violence against NPP candidates.
“Worst of all was the questionable Ablekuma North rerun, where NDC-affiliated thugs attacked our candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former MP Hawa Koomson,” he said.
“The message is clear, NDC is a failure, and Ghana deserves better,” Afenyo-Markin declared.
