The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with a robbery involving gold concentrate at Jukwa near Afransie in the Western Region.
According to a police statement, the suspects were apprehended on July 15, 2025, after they allegedly ambushed a Toyota Hilux pickup, with registration number GT 7426-23, which was transporting gold concentrate from a mining site to Wassa Akropong.
The vehicle was occupied by the driver, Kofi Gyamfi; a security guard, Bashiru; and one other individual when the attack occurred. The robbers intercepted the vehicle and made away with the gold concentrate.
Following a swift police response, one suspect—identified as Foster Peprah, a small-scale miner—was arrested at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Foster carried out the robbery with an accomplice known only as Isaac, who is currently on the run.
During police interrogation, Foster implicated the driver, Kofi Gyamfi, as the insider who provided critical information that enabled the robbery. Gyamfi was subsequently arrested and, in turn, accused Bashiru, the onboard security guard, of being the mastermind behind the operation.
Bashiru was later arrested at his hideout in Wassa Gyedua.
All three suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the fourth suspect, Isaac, who remains at large.
