Concerned Drivers Throw Weight Behind Dr. Hanna Bisiw’s Anti-Galamsey Crusade
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has pledged its unwavering support for Dr. Hanna Bisiw-Kotei, Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, in her fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
Speaking at a press conference, Paa Willie, President of the Association, commended Dr. Bisiw-Kotei’s proactive approach, describing it as a crucial step toward preserving the country’s water bodies.
He, however, urged Dr. Bisiw-Kotei to remain impartial in her efforts and ensure that no party members found complicit in galamsey are spared.
Paa Willie also praised President John Mahama, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and Goldboard CEO Sammy Gyamfi for their firm stance against illegal mining and encouraged them to intensify their efforts.
To strengthen the fight against galamsey, he recommended regular rotation of the security task force responsible for arresting illegal miners, noting that this would help reduce the risk of bribery and corruption.
Kwesi Arhin, President of the Association’s Central Regional Chapter, echoed these sentiments. He called on President Mahama and the Vice President to give their full backing to Dr. Bisiw-Kotei and ensure that all individuals involved in galamsey are held accountable, regardless of their political affiliations.
The Association underscored the severe impact of illegal mining, citing distressing cases such as children going blind from contaminated water. They urged Dr. Bisiw-Kotei to stay committed to her mission and resist any form of pressure or influence.
