Residents of Woeviakpodzi, a community in the Anloga District of the Volta Region, have been left in shock and mourning following the discovery of the lifeless body of 71-year-old retired teacher Kodzo W. Sosa in a farm well.
The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, June 25, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., and has sent ripples of fear and sorrow through the local community.
According to Adzika Solomon, a resident, Mr. Sosa had been reported missing on Sunday evening, June 23, prompting a frantic community-wide search.
“We heard about Mr. Sosa’s disappearance on Sunday evening. Everyone in the community joined efforts to find him, but sadly, it ended in tragedy,” Mr. Solomon said in an interview.
He explained that the well, believed to have been dug for irrigation purposes, was located on a farm, and had no safety barriers or visible markings, raising suspicions that Mr. Sosa may have accidentally fallen in while on his way to the farm.
“The height of the well is very short, and there’s no sign or demarcation to warn people. That might have contributed to the accident,” Mr. Solomon noted.
Laurent Doe, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the case was immediately reported to the Anloga Police, who responded quickly and recovered the body from the well.
“Given the state of decomposition and the environmental conditions, the body was buried immediately, based on advice we received from the authorities,” Mr. Doe explained.
He also commended both the Anloga Police and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) for their swift intervention.
The well, identified as a potential hazard, has since been destroyed by the community to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Mr. Doe urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an official investigation into the matter.
