One dead, 22 injured in horrific crash on Accra–Kumasi Highway

A tragic road accident at Nkawkaw Oframase, along the Accra–Kumasi highway, has claimed the life of one person and left 22 others critically injured.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, involved a Kia Granbird bus (registration GR 2399-15) and a Kia Rhino truck (registration GW 2285-11). The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by authorities.

Confirming the incident, Kwahu West Municipal Fire Commander, DO II Samuel Mante, said several victims were trapped inside the vehicles following the collision. Emergency services responded swiftly to rescue the trapped passengers and provide urgent medical assistance.

“One victim died at the scene,” Commander Mante reported.

The injured were transported to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Commander Mante used the occasion to urge drivers to exercise maximum caution on the roads, especially on long-distance routes like the Accra–Kumasi highway. He also called on transport operators to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragedies.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. Efforts are also underway to notify the families of the deceased and injured.
