A 36-year-old notorious armed robber, Stanley Afaku, who attacked a security guard at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi at gunpoint, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The Sekondi Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Naa Amberley Akowuah, convicted Afaku, a Nigerian national, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery.
As part of the ruling, the judge ordered that Afaku be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service after serving his sentence.
His accomplice, Samuel Nickson, alias Egya Acquah, who is already facing another robbery charge, denied the offence and was remanded into police custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on June 24, 2025.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by Superintendent of Police Olivia Awurabena Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Western Region, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi.
According to the statement, on February 23, 2025, Afaku and Nickson held Nash Arthur, a security guard at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, at gunpoint, tied him up with his own shirt, and stole his mobile phone.
The duo then proceeded to the hospital’s Out-Patient Department (OPD) pharmacy, where they made away with a flat-screen television set.
Following intelligence, Afaku was arrested at the Esiama Bafana ghetto on June 4, 2025. He admitted to the offence during interrogation and named Nickson as his accomplice, the statement added.
