A subtle but sharp political exchange is brewing within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, has responded critically to remarks made by former Second Lady Samira Bawumia about her husband, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Samira Bawumia praised Dr. Bawumia’s personality during a meeting with executives of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) from the Ashanti Region at her office in Accra.
In her address, Samira described Dr. Bawumia as a “humble, thoughtful, and considerate politician,” but firmly emphasised that his humility should not be mistaken for weakness.
“He is a very strong person, but he is intellectual, so his actions are well thought through. That is who he is. He won’t change his personality,” she said.

He is a humble person, but that does not mean he can be taken advantage of. People want to define him in a certain way, but leadership is about vision. We are practising democracy in Ghana. A president is not elected to fight — the country needs a visionary leader who will bring good policies and programmes to improve the lives of Ghanaians.”
Responding to Samira’s comments on his official Facebook page, Kennedy Agyapong’s Spokesperson, Kwarteng, stated bluntly, “The NPP needs a winnable candidate, not a humble man.”
According to him, the New Patriotic Party should focus on electing a candidate who can lead the party to election victory, rather than bringing someone humble yet cannot win an election.
He said, Kennedy Agyapong is the sole person who can lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 elections and not Dr Bawumia.
