Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called for the amplification of marginalized voices in Ghana’s national discourse.
Speaking as the Special Guest at the centennial celebration of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)—which also marked 55 years of the organization’s work in Ghana—Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed the urgency of dismantling systemic barriers that sideline the underrepresented.
“As we marked this milestone, I emphasized the need to move marginalized voices to the centre of national discourse. We must work collectively to remove the structural sidelines that hold many back,” she stated.
In a Facebook post reflecting on the event, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast also underscored the critical role of the youth in shaping the future of Ghana.
“The future belongs to them, and they must be equipped, empowered, and willing to take an active role in shaping it.”
She praised the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for its enduring contributions to education, gender equality, and social justice in Ghana and beyond.
“I commended FES for their important contributions towards higher education. They have also contributed significantly to advancing gender equality, and I acknowledged their long-standing support for women’s empowerment in Ghana and beyond.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang concluded with a message of appreciation and optimism:
“Congratulations once again to FES on these remarkable milestones. We look forward to many more years of friendship and cooperation.”
