A quiet Sunday morning took a tragic turn in New Site, Effia-Kwesimintsim, when a well-known local barber, James Opoku—popularly known as Nana Yaw—was discovered dead inside his locked barbershop.
The discovery was made by his son, Shadrach, who had been sent by his mother, Christina Mensah, to check on his father after repeated phone calls went unanswered.
According to Shadrach, the shop’s door was locked from the inside. When he finally managed to enter, he found his father lying lifeless on the floor.
“It looked like he had crawled from his mattress toward the door,” Shadrach recounted, suggesting that his father may have struggled before collapsing.
Christina, visibly distraught, explained that her husband had recently started sleeping in the shop to prevent further break-ins. “He was strong and full of life. I don’t know what happened,” she said in an interview with Connect FM.
The body has been transferred to a local mortuary for autopsy as police begin investigations to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether foul play is suspected.
