Spare parts dealer Elder Collins Adjei from Kumasi has expressed scepticism over the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, stating that a lack of trust in the government’s ability to sustain the currency’s stability is why prices of spare parts have not been reduced.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with Kwesi Parker Wilson, Elder Collins responded to concerns raised by commercial drivers who noted that despite a drop in transport fares, the cost of vehicle spare parts remains unchanged.
“My trust is shaky about the stabilisation of the cedi,” he said, explaining that the current gains of the currency may not last.
When reminded by the host about the Christian call for unwavering faith, as referenced in Mark 11:22-23, Elder Collins responded, “The Bible’s faith is different from faith in worldly governance.”
He acknowledged that he, and for that matter, spare parts dealers, are not pleased with the current high cost of spare parts, admitting, “When the dollar rises, I get worried.
According to him, Spare Parts dealers are planning to reduce their prices in the days ahead.
“I’m very confident that, once the cedi appreciates and proves stable, we will begin to reduce prices of our goods to help improve living conditions.”
