Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has voiced strong frustration over Parliament’s inability to identify the MP responsible for the offensive “daughter of a murderer” remark aimed at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey.
Addressing the House on Tuesday, May 27, the Speaker condemned the lack of accountability, calling it both disappointing and unacceptable—particularly because the comment was made openly during parliamentary proceedings.
“The investigations are still not concluded, but to be frank with you, I am very disappointed with all of you,” Bagbin said.
“A member seated in this House with all colleagues around uttered those words, and no single colleague can pinpoint who it was. Even among the three of you seated together — the zone is on the three — none can say who said it.”
He directed pointed criticism at the Majority side of the House, questioning how none of its members, who had a clear view of the incident, could identify the culprit.
“The Majority members, with your numbers watching the Minority — you are telling me none of you can identify the person who spoke? The person spoke not once, but twice, and even the Minority Leader turned in that direction, yet still no identification?” Bagbin asked.
He also raised concerns about the failure of the House’s surveillance systems to assist in the investigation, noting that footage had not been able to capture the offending MP.
