Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has honoured an invitation from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for questioning.
Chairman Wontumi appeared at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday, accompanied by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and several supporters.
His appearance is in connection with ongoing investigations into the operations of Akonta Mining, a company he is associated with. Details of the inquiry remain limited, but sources suggest it forms part of broader efforts by law enforcement to probe alleged irregularities in the mining sector.
This development comes after a failed attempt by a joint police and National Security team to arrest Chairman Wontumi at his residence in Kumasi on Friday, May 23. The circumstances surrounding that attempted arrest remain unclear.
Chairman Wontumi’s legal team and associates have yet to make a public statement, but sources close to the case say he is cooperating fully with investigators.
The CID is expected to continue its inquiries in the coming days as it gathers more evidence related to the case.
