South Dayi MP Sues Assin South MP for Defamation

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi constituency, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the MP for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. The suit was submitted to the Accra High Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The legal action stems from a social media post made by Rev. Fordjour on May 8, 2025, on X (formerly Twitter). In the post, the former Deputy Minister of Education demanded accountability from the Majority Chief Whip, alleging that Dafeamekpor, in his capacity as Vice Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, was involved in questionable payments made while in opposition.

Mr. Dafeamekpor has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as “false, malicious,” and made with a “reckless disregard for the truth.” He clarified that he was not a member of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee at the time of the alleged incident in December 2023.

According to Mr. Dafeamekpor, the post has seriously harmed his reputation, integrity, and political career. He claims it has subjected him to public ridicule, caused significant economic loss, and inflicted lasting damage to his character.

In his suit, the South Dayi MP is seeking a declaration that the statements made by Rev. Fordjour are defamatory. He is requesting both an interlocutory and perpetual injunction to prevent further such statements. Additionally, he demands a public retraction and apology to be published in print media and on social platforms.

Mr. Dafeamekpor is also claiming damages in excess of GH₵30 million.
