A tragic accident in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025, has claimed the lives of four individuals and left three others injured at Akyem Asafo on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The collision involved two cargo trucks and a tipper truck, all headed towards Accra.
According to eyewitness Tweneboah Koduah, one of the cargo trucks, which was transporting cocoa, developed a mechanical fault and came to a halt on the road.
Under unclear circumstances, a second cargo truck crashed into the stationary vehicle. Moments later, a third truck carrying market women also collided with the wreckage, compounding the severity of the incident.
The accident has led to significant traffic congestion along the highway. Koduah advised motorists traveling from Accra to Kumasi to divert through Apedwa, while those heading from Kumasi should use the Kibi route to avoid the gridlock.
Emergency responders, including police and medical teams, are on-site managing the situation. The injured have been transported to nearby health facilities for treatment, and efforts are underway to restore normal traffic flow.
