Former presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kennedy Agyapong has urged the party’s national executives to grant political amnesty to all suspended party members, including Paul Afoko and Alan Kyerematen.
Speaking during the NPP’s national thank-you tour, Agyapong emphasized the importance of unity among party members, warning that without it, the party’s chances of winning elections would be slim.
He cited biblical references, including Mark 3:25 and Matthew 12:22, to drive home the point that a house divided against itself cannot stand. “A kingdom that is divided against itself will fall,” he said. “This is not the first time we’ve lost an election, but with recognition and unity, we will win again.”
Mr Agyapong called on the party’s national executives to grant amnesty to all suspended members, arguing that their families, friends, and associates would be unlikely to vote for the party if their loved ones were not welcomed back.
“Anyone who has been suspended by the party has a wife, children, friends, and family, and therefore they will look at all this and not vote for the party,” he said.
The former lawmaker of Assin Central also apologized to party supporters who felt offended by the party’s actions, particularly for not inviting polling station executives and grassroots members to the national thank-you tour.
“I apologize on behalf of the party for not inviting polling station executives and the party grassroots at the national thank-you tour,” Mr Agyapong.
His appeal to the party’s national executives to welcome back suspended members could help to broaden the party’s appeal and strengthen its chances of winning power again.
