Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has officially been confirmed as the new Mayor of Kumasi following a resounding victory in Thursday’s Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) elections. Mr. Boadi secured an impressive 55 out of the 56 votes cast, receiving overwhelming support from the assembly members.
In his brief address after the confirmation, Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, urged the newly confirmed Mayor to prioritize critical issues facing the city.
Among these, he highlighted the pressing concerns of decongestion, improving sanitation, and tackling the challenges at the Kejetia Market, which have been major obstacles to the region’s progress.
Dr. Amoakohene further assured Mr. Boadi of the full support of the Regional Coordinating Council as he begins his tenure. He stressed that resolving these ongoing challenges would be crucial for the region’s development and urged the new Mayor to focus on tangible solutions.
Mr. Boadi, who previously served as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, now steps into the role of Kumasi Mayor with a clear mandate.
His appointment comes with high expectations as he aims to address these long-standing issues while driving the development of the metropolis.
