Former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her strong support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 elections.
The former Dome-Kwabenya MP believes Dr. Bawumia, despite leading the NPP to defeat in the 2024 general election, deserves another opportunity to head the party.
In an interview, Adwoa Safo expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia could secure victory in the next election if given the chance, citing past precedents as justification.
“For me, every person deserves a second chance. Nana Akufo-Addo became president after his third attempt. His opponents said he had been cursed and would never become president. But at the right time, God made him the leader of Ghana. So, why have we gone to an election only once with Dr. Bawumia as our leader, and people are saying we cannot allow him to lead a second time? Prof. Mills did not become president on his first attempt. Most of the time, many people don’t win elections. I did not win my first primary. I won on my second attempt,” she stated.
With the next general election three years away, some party members believe that Dr. Bawumia, a well-marketed politician, is the best candidate to win the election for the NPP.
Others are also backing the astute businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyapong, as the best candidate to wrest power from the NDC.
