A Chinese national, Dai Mengsheng, who was arraigned before the Takoradi District Court on an alleged murder-related charge, has been granted police enquiry bail.
The court set his bail at GH¢500,000 with three sureties, one of whom must be justified. Additionally, the police have seized his passport to ensure his presence at future court proceedings.
Authorities expect the bill of indictment, which details the charges against him, to be ready for submission to the High Court within the next two to three weeks.
Mengsheng was initially charged with preparation to commit murder, in violation of Sections 19 and 46 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29). The charge was based on legal advice from the Attorney-General’s office in Sekondi.
His arrest took place on February 14, 2025, in Tarkwa, Western Region, following a complaint filed by businessman David Anthony Nicol-Sey. After his apprehension, Mengsheng was transferred to the Regional Police Command in Sekondi for further investigations.
The case remains under review as authorities finalize legal processes for trial.
