The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ashanti Region, following multiple accusations, including his involvement in illegal mining activities.
Among the allegations leveled against him were negligence in supervising his community, lack of accountability to both his people and traditional authorities, and questions surrounding the legitimacy of his royal lineage.
After facing the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, Nana Amofa Twumasi II was found guilty of the charges. His participation in illegal mining within the Mpasaaso community, which led to the destruction of vital water sources, was cited as the primary reason for his removal.
The Asantehene emphasized that such actions go against traditional customs and reiterated that chiefs are responsible for upholding the law and protecting the land.
This destoolment adds to a growing list of chiefs recently removed by the Manhyia Palace for their involvement in illegal mining activities.
