A violent clash between students of Christian Methodist Senior High School (SHS) and residents of New Aplaku in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has left two people seriously injured.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, February 27, 2025, was reportedly triggered when a group of students assaulted a colleague accused of stealing a mobile phone.
According to an eyewitness, the accused student fled to a nearby shop for refuge but was pursued by the enraged group. In the process, they vandalized the shop and stabbed a community member in the eye with a pair of scissors.
Tensions escalated on Friday morning when some students allegedly launched another attack, wielding weapons and further aggravating the situation.
Shocked residents have condemned the violent conduct of the students, with some questioning whether they were truly students or criminal elements. They also expressed concerns that some of the students might have been under the influence of drugs, given their aggressive behavior.
In response to the escalating violence, a joint military and police team has been deployed to the school after reports emerged that some community members were mobilizing for retaliation. Security forces are currently maintaining order as investigations continue.
