The ‘Nkoko Nketenkete Project’, a large-scale poultry initiative, aims at supporting 55,000 households in egg and fresh poultry production in Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama has said.
Speaking during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, 2025, President Mahama emphasized that the initiative will not only empower local poultry farmers but also greatly cut down Ghana’s dependence on imported chicken.
“The Nkoko Nketenkete Project will cover 55,000 households producing eggs and fresh poultry for the market. And it will help reduce the $300 million we spend on importing chicken annually,” he stated.
The project aligns with the government’s broader agenda to facilitate food self-sufficiency, create jobs, and strengthen the local poultry industry.
The initiative is expected to stabilize poultry prices, support small-scale farmers, and increase agribusiness growth.
