The New Voter Forum, a pro-NDC pressure group, has issued an ultimatum to President Mahama, demanding the revocation of Ing. Edward Ekow Obeng Kenzo’s appointment as CEO of the Volta River Authority (VRA) by the end of February.
The Forum has expressed concerns that Ing. Kenzo’s appointment could hinder the NDC’s Reset-Ghana agenda and jeopardize national energy security. They are calling on President Mahama to reconsider the appointment, prioritizing the nation’s interests instead.
Addressing the press, Mr Conqueror Mawudzo Korto, Convenor of the New Voter Forum, expressed concerns that Ing. Kenzo’s appointment would compromise the NDC agenda and potentially lead to further plundering of VRA resources.
The Forum alleged that Ing. Kenzo supervised the devastating spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong dams, causing irreparable harm to numerous communities.
They also accused him of using divide-and-rule tactics, meeting with junior and senior staff separately, contrary to conventional durbar practices.
“While Ing. Kenzo is not a member of the NDC and should not necessarily be before assuming the position of VRA Chief Executive, he has openly shown his loyalty to the NPP as a die-hard card bearing member and must therefore not be allowed to assume this leadership position where he has to be a father and leader for all – not a few from his stock of party elements within the VRA”.
The New Voter Forum appealed to President Mahama to discontinue Ing. Kenzo’s appointment process and called for a forensic audit of VRA’s procurement over the past six years, including a value-for-money audit.
They warned that failure to address these concerns could have severe repercussions, including the exacerbation of the energy crisis (Dumsor).
