The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, has lifted the curfews on Chereponi and Bunkpurugu both in the North East Region with immediate effect.
The minister acted on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council
This decision, according to a press release by the Interior Ministry, has been necessitated by the genuine desire of the Chiefs and people of the area to sustain peace in the area as well as the improvement in the security situation in the area.
“Government continues to express its gratitude to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area and urges them to continue to resort to peaceful means in solving their problems,” the release dated Friday, February 21, 2025 said.
Meanwhile, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, the Mi sister has renewed the curfew hours on Walewale and its environs in the North East Region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Government calls on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
