Former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has been released from detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
His detention was linked to an ongoing investigation into financial matters during his tenure as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s release was confirmed by his legal counsel, Ken Kuranchie, who provided details on the circumstances surrounding his detention.
According to Kuranchie, the professor was at his residence on Sunday morning when three pickup trucks carrying security personnel arrived. The officers informed him that he was needed at the NIB, and he voluntarily accompanied them to the agency’s head office. He was later transferred to the NIB offices in Kawukudi, Accra.
The investigation reportedly focuses on financial decisions and approvals made during Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s tenure at GIIF.
