Renowned Ghanaian gospel singer Mama Esther has opened up about the challenges she faced in pursuing her music career, revealing that her own mother once tried to stop her from singing.
Speaking on Oyerepa Entertainment Review with Francisca Intsiful on Friday, February 21, 2025, the celebrated artist shared how her early passion for music was nearly crushed.
Recalling her childhood experience, Mama Esther said, “When I was around 13 years old, a man called Mr. Boadi used to gather us to sing. One day, my mother walked into the room where we were practicing and dragged me out. She warned me not to sing in the bathroom either because she believed it was an abomination.”
The gospel star expressed regret over the lack of encouragement she received as a child, stating, “If my mom had allowed me to sing, I might have gone very far by now. But because no one in my family was a musician, no one encouraged me.”
Despite the early setbacks, Mama Esther persevered and has become one of Ghana’s most respected gospel musicians, inspiring many with her uplifting songs and unwavering faith.
The ace gospel artist has released a new track, dubbed: Nyame Nye Mistake. She featured her 3rd born, Ella on that track.
