After almost ten years in detention, Gregory Afoko, a key suspect in the 2015 murder of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama, has been granted bail by the High Court in Accra.
The court set bail at GH₵500,000 with two sureties, marking a significant development in the long-running case.
Afoko was arrested in 2015 and accused of conspiring with others to assassinate Mahama in a brutal acid attack outside his Bolgatanga home.
Despite securing bail, Afoko’s trial is still ongoing as the state continues its prosecution.
The case dates back to May 20, 2015, when Mahama sustained severe injuries after being doused with a substance suspected to be acid in front of his house. He later succumbed to his injuries at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
