Samuel Kwasi Hlo, a salesman accused of misappropriating GH¢111,591 belonging to Auto Avenue Enterprise, has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court.
Hlo is also alleged to have stolen auto parts worth GH¢144,313 from the company.
He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of stealing.
The court, presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, granted him bail set at GH¢300,000 with three sureties, two of whom must be public servants earning at least GH¢5,000.
One surety must justify the bail with immovable property backed by title deeds, while all sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Hlo was also ordered to deposit his Ghana Card at the court registry and report once a week.
The prosecution was directed to file disclosures and witness statements, with the case adjourned to March 7, 2025.
Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, leading the prosecution, told the court that the complainant, Makella Amevenu, is the Managing Director of Auto Avenue Enterprise, a company dealing in auto parts at Dansoman Exhibition Roundabout.
He said Hlo had worked as a salesman at the company for seven years.
In 2023, Hlo reportedly brought his son to work at the company without management’s knowledge or consent.
This led to a dispute between Hlo and the company’s driver, ultimately resulting in his suspension.
Following his suspension, management conducted an audit covering January 4, 2021, to October 3, 2023.
The audit revealed that auto parts valued at GH¢111,591 issued to Hlo were unaccounted for, and GH¢144,313 in customer payments received by him was also missing.
On February 9, 2024, Hlo was arrested and handed over to the Dansoman Police for investigation.
He was granted police bail to allow reconciliation of the accounts with management.
However, during the audit process, he allegedly realized the extent of his financial misconduct and absconded.
His surety was then issued a forfeiture order to produce him.
On February 6, 2025, the surety surrendered Hlo to the investigator, leading to his arraignment.
