Ashanti Regional Secretary for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Issah Abdul Salam, has strongly opposed Nana Nkansah Boadu’s participation in the just-ended Ashanti Regional Council of State elections, arguing that his candidacy was inappropriate given his political affiliations.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with host Kwesi Parker Wilson, Issah Abdul Salam questioned the rationale behind allowing an opponent of the government to contest for a position that requires advising the President.
“If we’re talking about someone who should serve on the Council of State, it shouldn’t be your opponent—someone who has accused you of being a thief, called you incompetent and said you don’t deserve to lead. If a person has allegiances to other political parties, will they genuinely advise you to succeed so that you remain in government, while their party stays in opposition?” he argued.
He further alleged that Nana Nkansah Boadu is a known member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and had even offered one of his houses to serve as a party office for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. According to Abdul Salam, if Boadu had won the elections, he could have compromised the government’s operations by leaking information to the NPP.
“Nana Nkansah Boadu shouldn’t have contested the elections. He is an NPP member, and he even gave one of his houses to Bawumia for a party office. If he had won, he would have leaked government information to the NPP,” he asserted.
