The Ghana Police Service has appointed DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe as the new Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
He replaces DCOP Frank Abrokwa, who has been reassigned to the Police Headquarters in Accra following criticism over his handling of security during the Ashanti Regional Council of State election on Tuesday, February 11.
The election, held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi, descended into chaos when machomen, allegedly linked to the NDC from Obuasi, stormed the venue and disrupted proceedings while ballots were being sorted.
Despite the presence of security forces under the Ashanti Regional Police Command, authorities failed to contain the situation, prompting Abrokwa’s immediate transfer. Reports indicate that his transfer letter was issued soon after the incident.
Prior to his appointment, DCOP Teye Cudjoe served as the Central North Regional Police Commander.
Welcoming the new police chief, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene expressed confidence in working collaboratively with him to strengthen security and ensure stability across the region.
