Captain Planet, a member of the music group 4×4, has criticized the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for their insensitive and unfair treatment of ailing musician Okomfour Kwadee.
The two organizations have often faced backlash for their lack of support towards struggling and veteran musicians, with many accusing them of neglecting artistes in dire situations. The latest case is that of Okomfour Kwadee, who was recently seen in a distressed state in viral videos, sparking public concern.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Captain Planet urged fellow musicians to come together and support their struggling colleague rather than waiting for industry bodies to take action.
Speaking to in an interview on February 8, the award-winning artiste revealed that he has been privately reaching out to Okomfour Kwadee, but believes it is now time for a collective effort to assist him.
“I don’t want to hear the names of GHAMRO and MUSIGA, they are uncaring towards musicians. I get annoyed whenever their names are been mentioned for emphasis. They are not doing what is expected of them,” he stated.
“They pay musicians as low as ¢200 as royalties. Their attitude towards Ghanaians leaves much to be desired”, he worried.
Captain Planet believes the associations are aware of Kwadee’s situation but have deliberately turned a deaf ear.
