President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, vowing to address its challenges and improve educational outcomes.
Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama emphasized that education remains a top priority for his administration.
He outlined strategic plans to strengthen the Free SHS policy, including securing dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to improve efficiency and ensure smooth operations.
Mahama assured Ghanaians that his government would take decisive steps to make the programme more sustainable and beneficial to students across the country.
“And ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy. We plan to improve the Free SHS programme to secure dedicated funding and decentralised food procurement.”
Mr. Mahama also announced the introduction of a “no academic fees” policy to provide financial aid for continuing students and a commitment to expanding infrastructure for tertiary institutions to accommodate growing student populations.
