A shooting incident at Adomanu-Legazy, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, has resulted in the death of one person, while another is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The deceased, identified only as Yaw, was a mason.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, known in the area as K, is the husband of a female police officer and a known informant.
The confrontation between Yaw and K reportedly stemmed from a previous altercation, during which K had labeled Yaw a thief, nearly inciting a mob attack against him.
During their heated exchange, Yaw entered a drinking spot to obtain a bottle of Schnapp, intending to invoke Antoa, a river deity, to curse K for falsely accusing him. K attempted to prevent him from performing the ritual, leading to a physical struggle between the two.
“We saw K pull out a pistol and fire shots into the air. Some bystanders tried to intervene, but he then turned the gun on Yaw, shooting him multiple times before also targeting another person, who sustained gunshot wounds,” an eyewitness recounted to journalist Evans-Nkum.
Bystanders managed to overpower K, disarming him before further harm could be done.
Yaw’s body has been transported to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue, while the injured victim is undergoing treatment.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
