A senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Musah Superior, has publicly attributed the party’s crushing defeat in the 2024 presidential election to the conduct and decisions of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
According to Superior, Akufo-Addo’s actions undermined the campaign of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate.
Speaking during an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Musah Superior expressed strong views on how Akufo-Addo’s leadership, particularly regarding controversial policies and statements, negatively impacted Bawumia’s chances in the election.
One of the key issues Superior highlighted was the implementation of the e-levy, a move that faced significant backlash from many within the NPP, including Vice President Bawumia.
“With the e-levy, almost everybody in the party didn’t like it, including the vice president. He (Vice President Bawumia) said the e-levy is a bad idea. It will affect the poor people so it should not be taxed, but they implemented it,” he stated.
Superior went on to criticize Akufo-Addo’s handling of public discontent over the policy, particularly during a visit to the Ashanti region.
The former president reportedly told residents who expressed concerns about the e-levy that they could vote for another party if they were dissatisfied.
“The president goes to the Ashanti region and people raise concerns, and the president tells them they can vote otherwise, these are all things I found quite intriguing,” he lamented.
