Former Ambassador of Ghana to China, His Excellency Dr. Winfred Nii Okai Hammond, emphasized the need for sustainable renewable energy solutions in Ghana, highlighting China’s exemplary role in development and energy innovation.
Speaking at the LIGHTING UP GHANA conference, Ambassador Hammond stressed the importance of making renewable energy accessible to all, particularly low-income households.
He questioned how individuals earning minimal wages could afford proposed energy solutions, underscoring the need for affordable and sustainable energy options.
Ambassador Hammond praised Hagan’s innovative approach to solar energy, offering various packages tailored to different markets and addressing initial capital investment challenges. He encouraged collaboration with China and other partners to tap into available resources and bring economic benefits to Ghana.
The conference aimed to promote sustainable energy solutions, economic growth, and development in Ghana, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7), which emphasizes access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
