Blay Nyameke Armah, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi in the Western Region of Ghana, has expressed his intention to request permission from President John Dramani Mahama to move the statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis to his hometown of Kyebi.
Armah believes that Akufo-Addo does not have any significant accomplishments in the region that would warrant a statute in his honour.
He argues that Akufo-Addo should have focused on benefiting his hometown rather than seeking personal glorification through a statue.
In an interview with Kwasi Parker-Wilson, host of Oyerepa Oyerepa Breakfast Time, January 7, 2024, Armah questioned, “What has Nana Addo done for us in the Western Region to justify having a statue there? Our communication directors will relocate the statue to his hometown.”
“We will get permission from our president (Mahama) to relocate the statue to Kyebi and mount Kwame Nkrumah’s statue there.”
