The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a stern warning to President Elect John Dramani Mahama, urging him to rein in his supporters who are engaged in violent attacks and destruction of properties.
At a press conference, the majority leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has spoken out against the escalating violence, emphasizing that this is not the democracy Ghanaians have worked hard to achieve
The NPP is particularly concerned about the targeting of its members, including constituency secretaries, who are allegedly being threatened and intimidated due to unfounded accusations of possessing “pink sheets” – a reference to allegedly doctored election results.
Majority therefore called on Mahama to address his party’s supporters, emphasizing that such actions undermine the democratic process and violate basic human rights.
He noted that NDC supporters are using false information to incite violence, citing the example of a fabricated story about an NDC constituency vice chairman being missing.
The NPP has pointed out the hypocrisy of the NDC, highlighting that when they were in opposition, they were vocal advocates for democratic principles and due process, even when facing court proceedings.
