The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has praised the peaceful nature of Ghana’s election day process, but expressed concern over incidents of harassment, intimidation, and violence that occurred after the polls.
At a press briefing, Rev. Fred Deegbe, CODEO Co-chair of said CODEO’s Collation Center observers reported that the EC constituency collation center in Damongo, Savannah Region, was burned down, and properties were destroyed.
The organization has urged all political parties and candidates to take a firm stance against violence and ensure their supporters remain peaceful.
CODEO also recommends continuous improvement in voter education, election administration logistics, and proactive measures to prevent violence.
The organization condemns the violent takeover of government offices and property by party supporters and emphasizes the need for leaders to uphold democratic principles.
CODEO’s statement comes after the organization deployed observers across the country to monitor the election process.
The organization has called on stakeholders to reflect on lessons learned from the elections to enhance the quality of future electoral processes.
