The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its supporters to celebrate their victory in the presidential and parliamentary elections with decorum and restraint.
Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra, National Communications Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, condemned the acts of vandalism and looting of state properties that have been reported in some parts of the country.
According to Gyamfi, some of the incidents were carried out by disgruntled supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who believed that their party’s parliamentary candidates had hoarded state-procured food items, fertilizers, and other materials meant for voters.
Additionally, Gyamfi acknowledged that some over-zealous NDC supporters had also been involved in destructive behavior, carried away by the excitement of the party’s resounding victory.
The NDC therefore urged its supporters to remain calm and celebrate responsibly, as the party prepares to take the reins of power.
