Nana Kwadwo Morgyie, the Chief of Numasua, a community in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipal of the Ashanti Region, has made a passionate appeal to the government to address the deplorable state of the Numasua M/A Basic School.
The school, which was established by the community 15 years ago, lacks proper school blocks, forcing students to learn under wooden structures and even trees.
This unacceptable situation has significantly impacted teaching and learning processes, affecting the education of approximately 900 students.
Speaking to the media during the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the basic school, Nana Morgyie emphasized that the community has struggled to build proper classroom blocks over the years and is now calling on the central government, NGOs, Ghana Gas, and other stakeholders for assistance.
“The condition of the Numasua M/A Basic School is deplorable. The students are forced to learn under makeshift wooden structures and even trees. Despite my repeated appeals to the government and the public for assistance, no one has come forward to help. What breaks my heart is seeing over 800 students and teachers struggle during class hours, especially during the rainy season.
Furthermore, the lack of a teacher’s bungalow is another pressing issue. Many teachers who are posted here refuse to come, while those who do eventually seek transfers, leaving the school with a severe shortage of teaching staff. This has a devastating impact on the teaching and learning process.” He stated.
I’m making a passionate appeal to the government, NGOs, Ghana Gas, and the Otumfuo Foundation to come to our aid. We urgently need a new classroom block and a teacher’s bungalow for the Numasua M/A Basic School. I implore you to help us provide a conducive learning environment for our children.” Nana Morgyie appealed.
Likewise, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Baah Samuel, highlighted the urgent need for an ICT laboratory.
He said, students rely on a single laptop for studies, which has resulted in low pass scores in the Basic Education Certificate Exams (BECE).
