The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has adjourned the House indefinitely due to the absence of business for lawmakers to deliberate on.
This decision was made following the failure of the Business committee to meet and prepare the necessary agenda for the floor.
The recall session, which was initiated by the Majority caucus, was expected to address several critical issues. However, the Majority caucus failed to appear in the Chamber, which led to Speaker Bagbin expressing disappointment. He noted that their absence stalled proceedings.
During his address to the House, Speaker Bagbin highlighted the procedural challenges that prevented Parliament from moving forward.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between both caucuses to ensure a functional and effective legislative process, especially when addressing urgent national matters.
This latest adjournment comes amidst ongoing tensions between the Majority and Minority caucuses, which have impacted parliamentary proceedings in recent weeks.
With the indefinite adjournment, it is uncertain when Parliament will reconvene to address the stalled issues, leaving the legislative agenda for this session in a state of flux.
