The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be a public holiday, dispelling recent rumours circulating on social media.
The misunderstanding arose after the National Farmer’s Day celebration, traditionally held on the first Friday in December, was moved to November this year to avoid clashing with the General Elections.
This change led to speculation that November 8 would automatically be a public holiday.
In a statement released on Tuesday, November 5, the Ministry clarified that while the 2024 Farmer’s Day celebration will take place on November 8, the day itself will remain a regular working day.
Government offices, businesses, and schools will continue normal operations.
The Ministry further explained that, despite the rescheduled celebration, Friday, December 6, will still be observed as the statutory Farmer’s Day holiday.
Although the official event will not be held on that date, December 6 is recognized by law as a holiday to honour the nation’s farmers.
