Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that the NPP has outperformed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the education sector.
He made this statement while engaging with the Private and Unemployed Teachers’ Alliance (PUTA) at the College of Education campus in the Ayawaso West Wagon constituency of the Greater Accra region.
According to Dr. Prempeh, the policies implemented by the Nana Addo-led government have significantly increased the transition rate from junior high school to senior high school across all 16 regions in Ghana.
He emphasized that the NPP prioritizes teachers’ welfare, recognizing the crucial role the teaching profession plays in nation-building.
Dr. Prempeh, a former education minister, criticized the NDC’s handling of the education sector during Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang’s tenure.
He cited the cancellation of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, which negatively impacted affected students. Additionally, he referenced the infamous “I won’t give you chalk” episode, highlighting the NDC’s perceived insensitivity to education growth.
Dr. Prempeh urged Ghanaians to reject the NDC in the December 7 election, emphasizing that the NPP’s record in education surpasses that of the NDC.
