The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has praised its Majority Caucus in Parliament, led by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for standing firm on the side of the law during Tuesday’s sitting. The party applauded their maturity amidst provocation from the NDC Minority.
The party urged Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to maintain neutrality, acting as a referee rather than a player.
Speaking at a press conference today, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, the director of communications, says the NPP and its MPs demonstrated unwavering commitment to lawful processes, resisting the Speaker’s alleged attempt to reconfigure Parliament’s composition.
The Supreme Court vindicated the Majority Caucus, ordering the Speaker to rescind his decision.
The party emphasized the Speaker’s oath to uphold the Constitution, noting only the Supreme Court can interpret and enforce its provisions. The NPP’s statement reaffirmed its dedication to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic principles.
