Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has praised Ghana’s democratic standards, calling it a model for Africa, ahead of the December 7th general elections.
As the leader of the West Africa Elders Forum (WAEF), Jonathan met with Ghana’s National Election Security Task Force to discuss preparations for a violence-free election.
Jonathan commended Ghana’s electoral credibility, noting that the country’s democratic practices set a high standard for the sub-region.
He expressed optimism that the 2024 elections would be the most peaceful in Ghana’s history, thanks to the caliber of individuals on the National Election Security Task Force.
The pre-election consultative meeting aimed to brief WAEF on the task force’s preparations for ensuring a peaceful election. Jonathan’s visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation in promoting democracy and stability.
As a respected regional leader, Jonathan has been involved in promoting democracy and peace building across Africa through his foundation. His endorsement of Ghana’s democratic processes highlights the country’s progress in maintaining peaceful elections.
Dr. George Akufo Dampare, IGP and chairman of the National Elections Security Task Force, has given Ghanaians, Africa, and the world at large, a reassuring message – electoral security has improved significantly compared to previous years.
According to Dr. Dampare, the collaboration has borne fruit, making the electoral process safer and more secure. But he didn’t stop there. The Inspector General of Police also urged stakeholders, including political parties, the Electoral Commission, civil society, and the general public, to join forces with the task force.
By working together, Dr. Dampare believes that Ghana will not only conduct successful elections but also make every citizen proud, both individually and nationally.
