The leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has stated that his previous election losses have influenced his vision for a more prosperous Ghana.
Despite the setbacks, Mahama believes that these experiences have allowed him to contemplate how best to bring about positive change in the country if given another opportunity.
Speaking at an event called Fellowship with the clergy in East Legon, Accra on Tuesday, the former President conveyed his confidence that a second term in office would empower him to effectively utilize Ghana’s resources to enhance the socio-economic well-being of its citizens.
“I have had the opportunity to govern this country before; I have had the opportunity to lose an election and watch from outside. This reflection has given me the insight that I believe can help bring this country back on track.
“Not everybody get the opportunity that God will give me in this election. The opportunity to do it before, sit back and come back to do it better,” he stated.
Mr Mahama stressed that Ghana needs a compassionate leader who will prioritize the welfare of citizens.
“This is the kind of leadership the NDC offers to the people in the upcoming election. A leadership that will be honest with the people, eschew extravagance, that will tackle corruption and invest the nation’s resources wisely in order to create prosperity and opportunities for all of us,” he said
The meeting with the clergy also provided Mr Mahama to seek their prayers and counsel ahead of the December 7 election.
